Memo to Paul Ryan: REALLY? THAT'S THE BEST YOU GOT?

OK, back on the horse. Recovered, refreshed, and the odometer rolled over by one more number. And while I took a week to recharge, the single biggest story going around is the new Republican health care plan, sometimes called the AHCA, sometimes called Trumpcare, sometimes called Ryancare, and sometimes called the health care equivalent of a smallpox blanket.

I mean, we all knew what the intent was going to be. Take health care away from the poor and working poor, give the money to rich people, and present it as freedumb, choice, and access. But the clumsiness with which they went about it, the half-assed, cobbled-together pile of shit they came up with would, in a better world, ensure that none of these assholes were ever taken seriously about anything again.

No more getting money from the government to help pay for your health insurance! No, instead, you get tax credits! Tax credits let you do a shit-ton of paperwork so you can pay lower taxes in an amount that may sorta kinda cover a fraction of the cost of your premiums. And hey, if you don't make enough to pay taxes to get tax credits on, there's always Medicaid, which they're cutting the shit out of, too.

And in a brilliant public-relations move, Jason Chaffetz helpfully explained to poor people that they're poor and miserable because they're wasting their money on iPhones and so they don't need government help for health care.

Oh, and you don't have to pay the government if you don't have health care anymore. Instead, if you go without health coverage for more than two months, you pay a huge penalty to the insurance companies, because if there's one thing they need now that there's a bunch of stuff they can just up and stop covering, especially if you're a woman, it's MORE FREE MONEY.

The AHCA is a fucking garbage barge of shitty GOP healthcare ideas grabbed at random when they realized they wouldn't have Hillary Clinton around to veto their grandstanding and pandering bullshit. And they know it's bad, because they spent all week demonizing the Congressional Budget Office and voting on as much of the bill as they could before the CBO delivered its score. It's going to be a bad score.

And the best part is, they're saying the CBO was wrong on Obamacare, so why should we believe them on GarbageBarge? Which would be a great point if the CBO scored Obamacare badly and it worked out great, but to the extent the CBO was wrong about Obamacare, it was TOO OPTIMISTIC. You'd think they'd welcome a CBO score that makes it look better than it is, but apparently they're afraid that "pile of shit" will still be unappealing, even if it's describing a pile of rancid shit.

And even worse, since the bill doesn't actively call for rounding up the poor and sick and making them live in caves until they die, it's "Obamacare Lite" to the glibertarian teabagger wing of the party, who are essentially being told "we're calling this 'repealing and replacing Obamacare', so just fucking vote for it, OK?"

It's a giant clusterfuck, and the worst part is, the only thing that'll keep it from passing the committment of the three "moderates" and dozens of teabaggers to their ideals. So, really, next to nothing.
