So Much Cruelty

Memo to James Sensenbrenner, Steve King, and Randall Wilhite: YOU ARE DUMB.

Honestly, it's just the classic range of idiocy, cruelty, and shitheadery this week. IDIOTS SAY THE DAMNDEST THINGS!

"Nobody's got to use the Internet. … And the thing is that if you start regulating the Internet like a utility, if we did that right at the beginning, we would have no Internet. … Internet companies have invested an awful lot of money in having almost universal service now. " - Wisconsin Republican James Sensenbrenner, justifying his vote to sell out your privacy to not even a high bidder.

This is just crazy wrong on a whole bunch of levels. We obviously don't know what would have happened if the Internet had developed differently. Maybe there'd be no 4chan. But it's also true that lots of public utilities include private companies spending lots of money building universal service, So claiming that Internet companies get to do whatever they want because they turned a government network into the single greatest porn delivery method in human history is some disingenuous shit even by Wisconsin politician standards.

But all of that pales in comparison to on one hand, saying "No one needs to use the internet" like an unrealistic parody of a 73-year-old because most of the people I know in their 70s can't fucking manage without the Internet either, and then on the other hand, calling it a "universal service". You can not use electricity or public water or public sewers, too, but that doesn't mean they're not a part of public life. Without the Internet, we wouldn't know that James Sensenbrenner is a crusty-dicked fussbudget, and if that doesn't make it essential to American society, I don't know what does.

"First non-valedictorian DREAMer deported. Border Patrol, this one's for you." - America's Stupidest Congresscritter, Steve King, attaching a picture of a beer to this tweet.

If you're wondering what, specifically, King was celebrating, well, buckle up. Immigration agents waited outside the home of a 23-year-old man brought to the United States when he was 9, arrested him, and deported him to Mexico three hours later, despite him having authorization to stay in America under DACA until 2018. And despite Trump not rescinding DACA protections. Oh, and they didn't let him go back for his wallet with his documentation in it.

You have to be a pretty gaping, prolapsed asshole to celebrate that, so it's a good thing we have Steve King around to fill that hole by being that hole. And if you're wondering just how big a racist Steve King is, look no further than his "non-valedictorian" dig, implying that the various people benefiting from DACA who've done well in school are exceptions used for publicity purposes, and anyone less that is a filthy brown who needs to be sent to a country they haven't seen since they were nine to somehow live their life. Just open, naked cruelty.

"He’s playing a character. He is a performance artist.” - Attorney Randall Wilhite, inadvertently signaling the imminent end of the career of his client, Alex Jones.

Now, I could point out that Alex Jones' "performance art" includes the Sandy Hook shooting being a fake and the government lining juice boxes with estrogen to turn boys gay, and that he was hugely influential in getting Trump elected, and that this admission came out during an ugly custody battle with his ex-wife where she argued, quite understandably, that Alex Jones shouldn't be around children.

No, I'd rather point out that throughout recent history, there have been a lot of professional assholes. Alex Jones is the latest and most extreme of them, but their career arc is pretty consistent, and at some point in that arc, people start wondering what kind of monster would say the kind of things they say. And when those chickens start coming home to roost, the traditional defense is always "I'm playing a character." From there, it's a fairly rapid slide to irrelevance as the true believers look for another crazy sonofabitch to follow instead. Bye, Alex.
